About That T-Shirt...

"Stop staring at my c***", I told my client 🤔

These were the words we put on a t-shirt 4 years ago (see pic below).

As soon as I saw the t-shirt this morning, I knew I had to share its story with you.You see, game development is not all about "work". It's also about fun, especially in longer projects where motivation slowly drains.

And that includes designing t-shirts.

So, what was so particular about that "design iteration"?

Two things.

First, I am a programmer... graphic design is not my strength.

The question is then: who did this?

Well, an actual client who works in a "Big Three" automobile manufacturer.

If you think you must always be serious with "serious" clients, let me tell you: that's not always the case.

As long as you are professional, you can and should have fun along the way.

Of course we didn't do this in front of all my colleagues.

We waited for the lunch break to design the t-shirt.

And boom! First prototype ready within 30 minutes and printed within the day.

We could only misuse the lunch break because we were professional and efficient during the rest of the day.

We shipped projects consistently and reliably.

Which brings me to the Unity Performance Taskforce.

In this membership, we talk about the four pillars of game development. And the first one (the professional pillar) is all about becoming a more efficient developer so you can do other things in your (now) free time, including having fun and bonding with colleagues & clients.

P.S. We printed a few copies of the t-shirt as they became rather popular, but mine is still the original one
